Technology

Formal technology classes for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade provide time for students to not only improve their computer literacy skills, but also to grow tech-related confidence and learn to use technology in an ethical and responsible way. It is the philosophy and goal of St. Clement’s that skills learned in technology classes will enhance the student’s higher level thinking skills and transfer to learning in other subject areas.,  We encourage academically challenging, hands-on learning experiences across the curriculum to foster problem solving, critical and logical thinking, gathering and filtering information, and creating authentic products of knowledge.

Technology units of study listed by division include:
  • Early Childhood:  Digital Citizenship, Keyboarding Skills, Mouse Skills, Coding and Robotics, and Digital Art
  • Lower School:  Digital Citizenship and Online Research Skills, Keyboarding, Word Processing, Coding and Robotics, Digital Art, Stop Motion Animation (fourth), Spreadsheets (fourth)
  • Middle School:  Formatting and Editing Word Processing Documents, Email and File Management, Keyboarding, Coding and Robotics, Presenting Information with Digital Elements, Digital Art, Digital Citizenship and Online Research
In addition to offering designated tech class spaces, our two computer labs serve as learning spaces for the school’s after-school fall First Lego League robotics teams. The robotic tables contain student-built competition structures, which are another highlight of the labs.

With access to computers and people from all around the world comes the potential availability of material that may not be considered to be of educational value in the context of the school setting, or that may be harmful. St. Clement’s School is “Friendly Wi-Fi” certified, which means that appropriate filtering of Internet content is in place within our campus network.
