Third Grade Trip

The Third Grade travels to Fort Selden Historic Site and Leasburg Dam State Park in Radium Springs, NM.
The students experience more than 1400 years of history at Fort Selden from indigenous peoples, Spanish explorers, western settlers, and Buffalo Soldiers, learning hands-on through the examination of artifacts and crafting miniature adobe bricks. Leasburg Dam State Park provides opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and learning about local ecology. Our evening is spent at Sacramento Camp & Conference Center in Sacramento, NM, where we’ll participate in team building activities and everyone can rest for a hike the next day. Nestled in the Sacramento Mountains and surrounded by Lincoln National Forest, the trails on Sacramento’s property provide a beautiful backdrop for hiking and many opportunities for students to learn about the world around us while practicing Leave No Trace principles.
